Story
The Magnificent Ambersons tells the story of two interwoven romances amid the changing landscape of the American dream. Using the automobile as the essential icon for change, Booth Tarkington and Orson Welles reveal a tragic vision of the downfall of a great American family as they fail to keep pace in the new world of technological changes.
Foolish in his youth, our protagonist George Amberson Minnafer (Rhys Meyers) succumbs to the blind arrogance of wealth. He prevents his mother (Stowe) from being with her true love, and he sabotages his own relationship. In the end, George finds redemption through work, humility and the forgiveness of his one true love. The Magnificent Ambersons presents an unforgettable love story where the tragic themes of Shakespeare play out against the backdrop of the age of industry.
